Evaluation question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
All music videos tend to follow the same codes and conventions, they include performing muscicians or visual images illustrating the lyrics or genre of music. Looking at the bands genre of electronica, the music is very distorted and creepy, therefore a telli-tubies scene isn't exactly a matching convention.
Some other examples of electronica music, other than my focus band sleep party people would include skrillex, when saints go machine and arms and sleepers-if I were to just focus on the style of music video however I could go further in naming inspirations such as Florence And The Machine and Keaton Henson.
But what are the forms and conventions of a music video? and how have I used those forms and conventions in my music video?
Focusing on a narrative music video-one which tells a story-close up face shots are often used to emphasise a characters dominance over another FURTHERMORE-the are used to focus on a certain character a=or to emphasise a certain part of a song. By changing the angle type to a low angle shot highlights the characters dominance over another, therefore a high angle shot is used to make a character more inferior.
Electronica music videos tend to be a lot more artistic in a distorted way than pop (example-gangman style) and RnB (example-Rihanna-diamonds)-using strange imagery, animation, dance or art as a convention.
In my music video I have USED, DEVELOPED AND CHALLENGED this artistic convention through the SETTING, THE CHARACTERISATION (casting) AND THROUGH DANCE. Therefore matching the conventions of existing media products and more specifically, an electronica music video.
Also electronica music videos tend to have a distorted character, who may be some what deformed or creepy. This character is often used to represent the insanity within the music-highlighting the genre and therefore matching the forms and conventions of existing media products.
Finally, an electronica music video uses the same forms and conventions as other music videos such as master shots, point of view shots to create realism, static and tracking shots, sharp cut edits and lip sync.
