TRAILER

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhOlvUomBpE
This is the trailer for my music video of: I'm not human at all by sleep party people. Reveiving 100 views after only 2 days!
By looking at the two screen shots you can see the contrast in clothing, location and lighting.
By having a contrast I am able to illustrate the difference between the two characters.

I used a variety of shots varied from side on, slow motion, low angles, high angles, upside down, mid shots, long shots, bird eye's view. I have varied the shots to make the music video more interesting rahter than static.

The whole point of creating a music video trailer was to demonstrate the work which I have done so far and to show what the finished product would be like.

Shooting: DAY 1 & DAY 2

DAY 1: Thursday 20th September

FIRST DAY OF SHOOTING! On Thursday, me, Jess (ballet dancer) and Joe (lighting director) went into the theatre to begin shooting. Jess brought her ballet outfit and point shoes with her, Joe brought his lighting skills and I brought my planning, storyboarding, last minute shotlist, camera and tripod.

As soon as we went into the theatre we were faced with a problem! The theatre is sectioned off into two sections...the seats and the stage, there's a screen that sections the two from one another and when we went in I needed to screen to be moved. Joe called in two caretakers who did the job. First problem gone.

Luckingly there weren't many other problems...minor things like the colour of the lights and angle of the camera caused a problem but this was shortly sorted out, and after an hour and a half of changing light colours, camer angles and shots, we eventually managed to get some brilliant shots. All together I had about an hours worth of footage to sort through, way more than I needed. But more is always better than less.

DAY 2: Friday 21st September

On Friday, i focused on capturing Emmas street dancing shots. We located the shots in a more urbanised area in stark contrast to the ballet dancer shots. Emma was surrounded by brick walls and concrete. I asked Emma to dance at the top of a very slight, 2-3ft high ramp near the edge of a wall so that the camera angle would be slightly lower and I would be able to get a shot of her whole body. As people were constantly walking past Emma repeated her short dance routine which she put together which suited the music nicely. I tried many different interesting angles. I tried a couple canted angles to create a more disoriantated atmosphere, the low angle shots were significant because Emma was the street dancer who is the more aggressive and strong personality, in contrast with the ballet dancer who I shot at higher angles to represent her domination.
After, just over an hour, I had plenty of footage to work with, and also a bruise from falling of a wall...in attempt of creating another interesting shot.

SHOT LIST

These are my notes!!!
BASICALLY
I first sectioned the songs off into 11 groups, each group represents a change in the music, beat, tempo...E.C.T
THEN I have noted down what happens in each section and which characters are needed, furthermore I have noted each section into seconds, so I know exactly when each section begins and ends.

SECTION 1:
0-25 seconds
Slow faded in, eary tone.
I will use a spotlight revealing the ballet dancer at a long shot, also I will reveal separate isolated settings. Finally I will reveal 'THE CHARACTER' at a mid-close up shot using a 'shaky camera' effect before the lyrics begin in the next section.

SECTION 2:
26-42 seconds
Slow music and lyrics.
BALLET DANCER
"It's not your fault, it's my own fault, I'm not human at all, I have no heart!"
I want to use a range of close ups on lips, eyes, face ect and have her lip syncing the words. Alongside this narrative, the clip will cut to 'THE CHARACTER' walking along empty, isolated streets. The character will pick up a china doll.

SECTION 3:
43-56 seconds
Slow tempo on beats, lyrics continued.
This will focus on the feet of 'THE CHARACTER' walking in a close up shot. The ballet dancer will continue singing at various shot angles and lengths. The ballet dancer will be shot at a range of high and low angles to represent how 'THE CHARACTER' feels dominated at certain parts, but to also represent how 'THE CHARACTER's' imagination and personality is being possessed.

SECTION 4:
57-1:28 seconds
I want to use a range of slow motion moving shots of the ballet dancer. 'THE CHARACTER' turns around her and 'THE FIGURE' is revealed. The clip will constantly cut between the ballet dancer and the chase. I want to start the chase with a slow motion shot of the character running away.

SECTION 5:
1:29-1:59 seconds
'THE CHARACTER' here is going to run away-slow motion-ally. I want the creature to look like a manic happy clown skipping along chasing the character...I will use low angle shots of the figure and high angle shots of the character revealing how the character is dominated by the figure. This section focuses on the chase.

SECTION 6:
2:00-2:31 seconds
Here the ballet dancer lip syncs again, maybe with a change of light on her face to show more evil in her character-red possibly. Also the figure is revealed now under the spotlight singing the same lyrics, the two characters under the same spotight illustrates the insanity in the characters mind. The chase continues.

SECTION 7:
2:32-2:48 seconds
This section focuses on the street dancer. I have chosen to have a street dancer to contrast with the ballet dancer...innocence contrasted with aggressiveness. I want to use a lot of slow motion mid shots and close ups.

SECTION 8:
2:49-3:29
This part focuses on the ballet dancer and the street dancer mainly. Also I want to include various shots of red lipstick, fingernails, teeth, china dolls...and make the shots very disorientating.

SECTION 9:
3:30-3:51 seconds
This part focuses on the ballet dancer and the figure in unison with eachother. Furthermore the character is becoming tormented and is screaming and ripping her face. The character and the ballet dancer both scream so I can use the buffered effect and jump between the two to make them look like the same person.

SECTION 10:
3:52-4:07 seconds
This section will combine all narratives rapidly together. I want to show the character being overwhelmed and pushed into a corner by the figure and then on the next section the figure will dissapear revealing that it was all in her head and the character is insane.

SECTION 11:
4:08-4:48 seconds
The character realises she was imagining it is and is confused. The spotlight fades out on the figure and the ballet dancer and the character walks away. The china doll is revealed in the background.

PROBLEM! PROBLEM! PROBLEM!

The original song I chose was a SKRILLEX song which just so happens to be to popular to use!!! SOOOOO..I have had to find another song which I can use which will match the same style/narrative that the Skrillex song, first of the year, contained.
After HOURS of searching (yes I am honest when I say hours) I have found a song called 'I'm not human at all' by an independent band called 'Sleep party people'.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuLCPYLHR9o

Still though I am faced with another problem...this isn't my music...I need permission to use this music... Luckily i found there facebook page. So I sent them a message explaining I have a wicked idea for a music video for my A2 music video and they replied overnight giving me the ok.
Then, just as I thought I I would have no more problems...I AM FACED WITH ANOTHER PROBLEM...The song needs to be at most, 5 minutes, where as this song is 6 minutes 29 seconds...So I have had to use AUDACITY to edit the song down to what is now, 4 minutes and 53 seconds!

ACTORS AND LOCATIONS

CHARACTERS:

'THE FIGURE'    Ruby Ferguson
'THE CHARACTER'    Kerrianne Maloney
'THE BALLET DANCER'   Jessica Paul
'THE STREET DANCER'   Emma Kelly
'THE MASKED FIGURES'   Emma Kelly, Marianne O'reily, Rachael Jebb

LOCATIONS:

'CHASE':
For the scenes of the chase I am going to use the less crowded back streets of Stockport. The roads are quite narrow and bendy, furthermore they suit the atmosphere which I am attempting to create.
'BALLET DANCER':
For the ballet dancer, I am going to use the theatre at my college. I have spoken to the lighting technician and he has agreed to work alongside to help create the necessary atmosphere. I want to stage to be blacked out and one single spotlight to be on the ballet dancer. I have chosen this because it creates an isolated and eary atmosphere which is what I want to create within this music video.
'STREET DANCER':
For the street dancer I am going to use the top car park of the arndale centre with the view of Manchester city. I want it to be raining, therefore the shots of her face and the raindrops on her face would look brilliantly dramatic. I have chosen this location because it is completely opposite to the location of the ballet dancer, and the two dancing possess different qualities, i want to create a clear contrast between the two.
'LYRICAL MOVEMENT':
For the lyrical movement of, 'THE FIGURE' I want to use the same setting of the ballet dancer, however instead of using a single plain spotlight...I want to use multi spotlights with different colours to exaggerate the insanity of the figure.
'MASKED FIGURES':
The masked figures are a very minimal part of my music video, I am going to use china doll masks and place the characters infront of graffiti walls around MANCHESTER, mainly the northern quarter and use a stop-motion-animation effect. I have chosen this setting because it contrasts elegance with graffiti.
'THE CHARACTER ON OWN'
For 'THE CHARACTER'. walking down the street on her own I am going to use the same location for the 'CHASE'.
'OBJECTS':
For the objects such as china dolls, lipstick on cups, fingernails, eyes opening and closing I will use the college surrounding to shoot in. I have chosen the college because it is easily accessible and also the lighting is good. You wont see any of the college because i am using close up shots.

My youtube channel and previous created music videos

This is my youtube channel
http://www.youtube.com/user/AlGMegan?feature=CAgQwRs%3D
I have made 3 music videos which I have uploaded on here, I have also made a selection of others for various projects.
The music video to the best quality is 'Manchester Unnoticed'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIt6Aoqppc8&feature=plcp
This is because the editing matches the beats of the songs, there is a variety of shot types used and it creates a positive reflection of a City which a few people look at negatively.

OVERVIEW OF MY PLAN

As my idea is very complicated I have had to plan the changing narratives and scenes.

I have storyboarded all of my planning in my notebook and taken the images to illustrate what i have done.
I have split the whole video into 5 parts-each part represents a different character, type of music or emotion.

PART 1: 0-13 seconds
PART 2: 13-39 seconds
PART 3: 39-42 seconds
PART 4: 54-2:25 seconds
PART 5: 2:25-4:12 seconds

Furthermore each part is further divided into sub-sections, mainly in part 4. Part 4 is split into 4 sub sections. Each section is divided as by seconds. By doing this, I am able to divine and construe certain beats from another, and illustrate what image/character is gong to match that beat.

The first part of the video is going to be an introduction to 'THE CHARACTER', the shots will vary-will consist off master shots, over the shoulder shots, long/mid shots and close up shots.

The second part of the video consists of two coinciding narratives. The first narrative is the continuation of 'THE CHARACTER' where the character is simply walking down streets, the second narrative will be static shots of the different locations in which the other characters will be situated..such as the blackout and the spotlight and the top of the arndale car park.

The third part of the video is the introduction of the ballet dancer who represents the changing of personality within 'THE CHARACTER'. This section will consist of various shots, such as panning shot, close ups, mid shots and long shots...furthermore there will be a second narrative within this where we are briefly introduced to 'THE CREATURE' through close-up, quick-cut shots.

The fourth part is split into 4 sections:
Section 1 consists of the characters realisation of the monster and focuses on 'the chase'. Furthermore in this section the lyrics of the song "call 911 now" occur. I will use a selection of shots and angles, moreover I have created a name for an effect, the best way to descirbe this effect/style would be to imagine a scartched disk and the sounds it makes, then convert this to an image...I call it the buffered effect. From this section onwards I will use this often to coincide different narratives and characters..for example, because the ballet dance represent the personality of 'THE CHARACTER', I will use this effect to help illustrate how the two characters are the same.
Section 2 introduces more characters such as the street dancer and the three masked figures. I want to have 3 seperate shots of the ballet dancer-1 where she is innocent, 2 where she is evil/possesed and 3 of the character crying and screaming. Also I want to focus on the insanity of 'THE FIGURE'. I want to insert static images of objects such as china dolls, eyes opening and closing, red lipstick, fingernails and lipstick on cups. All to emphasise inbalance, mental state and disoriantation.

Section 3 focuses on the ballet dancer. I will use the buffer effect to combine the possesed and the innocent character into one..I want to have the dancer doing pirouettes, so in the editing you will clearly see the conversion of the ballet dancer to the possesed character.

Section 4 focuses more on the chase and uses the buffered effect to coincide the ballet dancer once again to 'THE CHARACTER'...further more I want to ballet dancer to be crying and screaming in attempt to escape her evil side and at the end of this section there are the "call 911 now" lyrics again, so this time it is the ballet dancer which says this...the significance of this is that it illustates how the innocent side is trying to protect 'THE CHARACTER.'

The fifth and final part of the music video is the conclusion of the riot, moreover the development of characters. This part is also split into sections:
Section 1 consists of a focus on 'THE CREATURE', the creature manically runs about and smiles, to illustate insanity. I will use a variety of shots and angles.

Section 2 contains two narratives. The first part of the narrative focuses on the strret dancer who represent a  more abrupt and aggressive form of dancing in contrast with the ballet dancer. I will use various panning shots at a range of angles and shot types on the top of the arndale car park...I would rather the weather consist of rain, there for her hair whips more dramatically, and the raindrops on her face will look good in the light. Furthermore I will make use of the slow motion effect here. The second narrative focuses on the masked figures placed before various graffiti walls, they will be shot in stop-motion animation style.

Section 3 combines all characters in the buffered effect. Here I am going to mainly use mid shot and close ups, furthermore I will exaggerate the use of slow motion.

Section 4 also continues the combination of the buffered fact to coincide all characters. However I will also include 'THE CREATURE' in the theatre location under multi coloured lights doing a form of lyrical movements. The chase is the focus point of this time sequence, in fact, the chase ends here in a slow motion buffered effect.

Section 5 will consist of static images of each of the characters to emphasise the personality of 'THE CHARACTER.' Before this however the character will realise it was all in her head...(or is it?)...and simply walks away...The last shot of this sequence and the whole music video will be 'THE CHARACTER' turning a corner to reveal that 'THE CREATURE' is still there in her head.

A FRESH IDEA

SKRILLEX: FIRST OF THE YEAR
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cXDgFwE13g

SYNOPSIS: The film is simply about a character with a mental disorder who believes that she is being followed by a nightmarish figure, however this is all just in her head. Furthermore there are other narratives within the video. Such as the contrast between a ballet dancer and a street dancer...the ballet dancer representing a more innocent and calm personality of 'THE CHARACTER' and the street dancer, in contrast representing a more abrupt and aggressive personality, which illustrates the mental disorder of 'THE CHARACTER'. Furthermore, the ballet dancer has two personalities to her. One in which she is innocent, one in which she is possessed.
